The Practice

Receptionists

Our receptionists are your first contact with the surgery. They will help you when you want to see your doctor or a nurse. They will also deal with requests for repeat prescriptions, answer many of your questions and arrange for you to speak to any other members of staff who can help you.

Secretarial and Administration

The doctors’ day-to-day work is supported by medical secretaries who are available to speak to patients on a variety of issues such as medication, transport and hospital appointments. Behind the scenes, members of our practice administrative staff do the work involved in the business of the practice.

Practice Nurses

Juliet Meakin, Andrea Piper and Sandra Harris, all Registered Nurses, together with Rosemarie Beck (Healthcare Assistant) comprise our nursing team.

One of our practice nurses is always available by appointment.

Nurse Practitioner

Sandra Harris is a nurse practitioner. She is qualified to diagnose and treat minor illnesses and to prescribe medication without reference to a GP. Sandra is available for consultations where patients believe they have a problem that a nurse practitioner can help with. Receptionists may sometimes ask patients who ask to see a doctor if they would prefer an appointment with the nurse practitioner. However, the final choice will always be with the patient.

District Nurses

If you are confined to your home and need assistance, then your doctor can arrange for a community district nurse to call. If you have been discharged from hospital but still need nursing treatment at home, then the hospital will usually arrange for a nurse to visit you. Sister Sue Robinson leads our team of district nurses.

Health Visitors

The health visitors are experienced registered nurses who have undertaken additional training in order to be able to offer advice, information and support on issues relating to the promotion of health and the identification of health needs within the community. Your health visitor forms part of your primary healthcare team alongside your GP, district nurse, community midwife and practice nurse. Health Visitors Vicky and Jacky, and nursery nurse, Donna, see people at home and at the surgery and are available daily. Their telephone and ansaphone number at the practice is (01843) 572742
